Federal Tax Credits

One of the most significant incentives for California homeowners is the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC).

Through 2032, the federal government offers a 30% tax credit on the total cost of installing a home solar system or electric vehicle charging station. Starting in 2033, the credit will decrease to 26%, and then to 22% in 2034. After 2034, the federal tax credit will no longer be available. To take full advantage of this major incentive, homeowners should act soon.

How does it work?

If you purchase your solar system or electric vehicle charger, you can apply 30% of the total installation and equipment costs toward your tax liability.

For example, if your solar panel system costs $20,000, a 30% tax credit would amount to $6000. If you owe $4,000 in federal taxes for 2024, this credit would reduce your tax bill to zero, leaving you with an additional $2,000 in credits for your future tax return.

Self Generation Incentive Program (SGIP)

Pacific Gas & Electric (PGE) and Southern California Edison (SCE) are giving hundreds of millions of dollars to incentive California residents to get energy storage (backup batteries) installed at their homes and businesses.

Small Residential Storage, Residential Storage Equity and Equity Resiliency are the commonly available programs for Central Coast homeowners.

The average SGIP rebate we are seeing for homeowners is around $3600, with some clients eligible to receive tens of thousands of dollars, covering their entire battery installation costs, including materials and labor!

Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) Rebate Program

90% of Central Coast residents are eligible for the 3CE Rebate programs!

Here is information on the 2 most common rebates we assist homeowners in processing.

1. EV Readiness & Charger Rebates:

In order to prepare for homeowners for the charging of electric vehicles, residents are eligible to get $2400 towards EV charging installations, which covers both equipment and labor costs for a standard installation. The best news – you don’t need to own an EV charger to get this rebate. So, prepare for the future and get your free EV charger right now!

2. Residential Battery Rebate Program

This program helps solar and non-solar customers manage their energy consumption and save money by storing the power they generate during the day to cover electricity use after the sun goes down and the prices go up (“load shifting”).

Adding battery backup can protect your home from outages and helps strengthen the electric grid. A battery will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Homeowners will be eligible to receive $300-$500 / kWh of energy storage as a rebate from 3CE.

The average battery installation we see receives $3000 – $13,000 in rebates from 3CE. This battery rebate funding is available until it is used up or September 30, 2025 – whichever comes first. So, be sure to get in line ASAP in order to get the best deal on your energy storage.

California encourages homeowners unable to purchase their solar projects outright to avoid solar leases by sponsoring $0 down financing options. This provides the opportunity to take the maximum rebates & incentives for your home solar projects. Here are a few additional benefits:

Commercial Solar & Battery Incentives

There are MASSIVE incentives both federally and through California, incentivizing businesses to go renewable with solar and battery storage.

These incentives assist business owners in recuperating 50-100% of the incurred costs.

Nonprofit Renewable Incentives - Direct Pay

Direct Pay allows nonprofits and other tax-exempt organizations to receive a 30% rebate on the cost of solar installations. This program offers a major financial boost for nonprofits, who can now directly benefit from the same federal solar incentives available to taxable entities, helping to make solar adoption far more affordable.

This 30% Direct Pay rebate can significantly reduce energy costs and support long-term sustainability goals without needing an upfront investment. To learn more about how your organization can benefit, reach out to our team for guidance.
